Golfer’s Elbow

What is Golfer’s Elbow?

Medially known as medial Epicondylitis, Golfers Elbow is pain centers on the inner numb of our elbow. It’s caused by repetitive strain on the tendons that attach your forearm flexors to the bone. In golf this of the happens due to a “Death Grip” or hitting the ground before the ball (“Fat” shot), which sends a vibration up the arm.

Why your Elbow is the Victim

The tendons at your elbow are the Anchor Points. If the muscles in your forearm are constantly tight and contracted (locked short), they are perpetually pulling on that anchor point.

Grip Factor: If you are over using your hands and wrists to power the swing instead of your hips and core, those forearm can become frayed and inflamed.

Shoulder Connection: If your shoulder isn’t rotating properly, your elbow has to twist more to compensate, putting uneven tension on the medial tendons.

How a Massage Therapist Handles Golfer’s Elbow.

When you come in with inner elbow pain, I don’t just rub the spot here it hurts.

Releasing the Forearm Flexors: I use deep, targeted strokes to lengthen the muscles in the inner forearm. This takes the Constant pull off the medial epicondyle (elbow bone)

Addressing the Antagonists: I check the extensors on the top of the arm. If they are tight, the back are often exhausted, I balance both side to stabilize the joint.

Clearing the Path: I look at the Pronator Teres- A Small muscle near the elbow that can trap nerves and mimic elbow pain.

Shoulder & Lat Integration: I ensure your shoulder blades and lates are moving freely, If muscles are working correctly, other muscles don’t have to pick up the slack.
